“Paul offered my (high school, freshman) son much more than just study skills: he helped him see (and prioritize) the choices that he makes, not only in what he spends his time doing but even how he negotiates his plans for school work. They made weekly and monthly plans, and reviewed strategies for success. They also talked about life and how best to prioritize choices so that my son could not only succeed at school, but also “fit in” some time with music, outside activities, and family. Nothing catches Paul by surprise, and his nonjudgmental style (plus his being a person with his own diverse experiences) really appealed to my son. From a parent point of view, Paul always went the extra mile with helping through conversation, emails or letters, even when he wasn’t paid for doing those activities. His patience, tenacity, and insight are all extremely helpful for kids this age. He has his finger not only on the “high grades” goal, but also on the emotions around grades and what they mean (and what they don’t mean). Failing a test suddenly becomes a challenge rather than a heartbreak, and acing a test becomes a tremendous accomplishment rather than just a great grade. I believe he helped my son have better grades, but he also help my son learn to make his OWN decisions and take ownership of them. Paul also “gets” that school isn’t everything, even for kids in a highly competitive magnet school. I recommend him strongly for unorganized and bright kids, even if they are not entirely sure of their goals and how to get there.”
